Reprinted from The NSW FLYER, a publication of the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia Volume No. 3-1999 Most kids return from holidays with sunburnt faces and tales of adventure. Luke Vlach is lucky to be alive and has a story that will impress all his pre-school mates. Four year old Luke and his family, from the New South Wales North Coast, were enjoying a taste of Outback life on their aunt's property. The holiday turned to tragedy when Luke's aunt had to resuscitate him after he was involved in a serious motorcycle accident. He was rushed to Brewarrina Hospital with serious head and facial injuries. While the rest of the state enjoyed a long weekend Bork Hill based Flying Doctors staff, Dr. Mike Hill and Nurse Jane Flemming, rushed to Luke's aid. Brewarrina Hospital staff did a fantastic job stabilizing young Luke and preparing him for a life saving flight to Sydney's Children's Hospital. Luke's dad, David said, "The Flying Doctors have a lot of supporters, and now we are, too. From now on, you can count on our support." In only two weeks, Luke had made an amazing recovery and is now at home in Banora Point, near Tweed Heads. By the time he gets back to preschool the cuts will have healed and the bruises gone. Perhaps he can show his friends a copy of THE NSW FLYER to prove he really did fly with the Flying Doctors.
