On the Road in the
Northern Territory
|
When you travel in Australia
you are never quite sure what you will see next. On the way from
Alice Springs to Darwin we saw the UFO capital of Australia (self-proclaimed),
a pet camel, the oldest pub in the Northern Territories and a
pub-museum in the middle of nowhere. But nowhere is always somewhere
and when there is nothing you invent something. |

An abandoned freight car is
the only relic of a once thriving railroad in the 1900s near
Pine Creek. |

The eccentric pub of Grove Hill
is a corrugated shed that boasts a museum of oddments left behind
from the old mining days. |

When the Aussies received a
pay raise but the Chinese laborers did not, the Chinese came
to work with "hollow shovels" as a protest. |

It took us a long time to figure
out this sign. (Will you buy me a drink if I tell you
.) |
