Cicada sp. Kroombit Tops National Park Central Queensland
The sometimes-deafening sound of hundreds of breeding cicadas can often dominate the Australian summer soundscape. Cicadas are found throughout Australia including Kroombit top National Park where this adult was photographed emerging from its exoskeleton. Cicadas spend about seven years beneath the ground before they emerge to breed for a couple of months before dying.
