Lake Mary Central Queensland
Lake Mary is a spectacular wetland that was created to retain floodwaters and maintain feed for cattle during drought conditions. Many of these ponded pasture type areas have become important breeding areas fro threatened bird species such as the cotton pygmy goose Nettapus coromandelianus. Unfortunately, Hymenachne, an introduced grass, is taking over many of these areas and threatening the value of these wetlands as a breeding habitat for birds.
