Magpie goose Anseranas semipalmate Low lake Lakefield National Park Cape York Queensland.
If there's one bird that you tend to associate with the wetlands of Northern Australia the magpie goose would be it. These birds are ideally suited to their seasonally unpredictable environments. Magpie geese are the only Australian waterfowl that moult gradually so that they always retain the power of flight throughout the year. This ability and their partly webbed feet, which enables then to roost in trees has helped them escape tropical Australia's other resident- the saltwater crocodile.
