Reflections Mataranka Springs
Northern Territory
Taking a swim in water
that maybe 34oC particularly when the outside temperature is
a mere 35oC may not sound like everyone's cup of tea but the
thermal springs at Mataranka in the Northern Territory are a
popular tourist spot. Located within Elsey National Park on the
Roper River the springs are renown for their therapeutic qualities
and they were once home to thousands of little red flying foxes
Pteropus scapulatus. Sadly pressure from local tourist
operators has force the Northern Territory parks and wildlife
service to take measures to ensure that the bats roost elsewhere.
