Village Scenes

Glorious colors, even on buildings. We were at the Ville d'Apt Saturday market and I looked up and saw this...

A typical 'petit'village street, this one in St. Saturnin d'Apt. Colorful windows and doors, residents watering plants on their balcony, streetside bistroes, folks strolling in the afternoon sun...it's all here. And more.

Lovely places to walk almost everywhere...and bell towers, too!

This fountain offers a treasured respite during an afternoon of walking the precipitous inclines and declines of petit village streets. Bring your walking shoes to Provence! A bottle of Merlot and a fresh Baguette wouldn't be bad, either. Possibly a little cheese...

Martine Cazin lives and works here in Simiane-La-Rotunde. ...such a lovely little corner of the world! She is a potter. These are small but treasured spaces for creative souls. Walking around these petit villages is an experience not to be forgotten. Don't forget to look back, or UP!

This little side-street cascades down to another level through a covered arch. What we like here is the stark contrast of light and the shape of the space...AND the shutters to draw the eye. Not to mention the vines growing up the wall. Now, if only there were a cat in sight!

Ellen had to climb a fence to get this shot and hang there preciptously while composing it. Not an easy task! Note the Provencal touches - the blue shutters, the bells, the yellow flowers in the foreground, the typical roof tops, the Luberon range in the background.

We worked for several hours to find this shot...red poppies in the foreground....imposing steeple...rooftops as far as the eye can see...plus we had to climb up on the car roof and then up onto yet another rocky ledge. Photography is fun, right?! A little Motrin helped that night.

So many archways to explore!

They beckon...you always have to find out what is around the corner...all your senses come alive during these fantastic little explorations.

Hard to see in this JPEG file but there is a wonderfully lazy black cat lying in front of the darker door. He heard our Nikons go CLICK! and he fled. Some nerve.

A market scene in Banon - one of the most fun markets we visited in all of Provence. See how the market consumes the square, colorful umbrellas and all? As I have said before, Provence loves color. So do I, come to think of it. Banon cheese works for me, too.

Someone asked, 'Why no people in this shot?"' Well, the answer is simple - there ARE no people, these petit villages in the Luberon are not tourist meccas. Folks live here, they don't parade the streets until market day, or maybe to have a Pastis on a hot afternoon in the local Bistroe. Life here is serene.
