Cape Leveque

The Dampier Peninsula features spectacular red cliffs and expansive ocean vistas. It is also a great spot fto glimpse humpback whales in season. Cape Leveque itself is paradise. Go there to enjoy its peace and solitude and its absolutely gorgeous scenery.

The fishing is good, too. Cape Leveque has a lighthouse and two deserted beaches which are sandwiched between two Aboriginal communities, Beagle Bay and One Arm Point. Permission to visit other areas must be obtained in advance.

The Landy was disabled on the track between Cape Leveque and Broome so drivers beware. It is not an easy track -- deep sand and rock for 150km. Be sure that you have fuel and water to spare. And check road conditions with the Broome tourist office before setting out.

A reunion with friends we met in Streaky Bay!

The Mission at Beagle Bay

What an understatement!

Australia is home to some of the world’s most venomous snakes

Quiet, remote, untrampled beaches as far as the eye can see

This is where the symbol on the Aboriginal flag comes from…

Blaze, Micko and Liam O’Byrne who we met for the first time up at Cape Leveque –what a crew! Here they had just finished a month long trek through the Kimberley by horseback with an Aboriginal guide. And I thought I was tired!

Imagine, no Salties to worry about here!
