The magnificent Geike Gorge is just
18km north of Fitzroy Crossing. The vegetation around this gorge
is dense and there is also much wildlife, including the freshwater
crocodile sunning itself on the shores. Euros and the rare black-footed
wallaby live in the gorge.
We visited the gorge with Darngku Aboriginal
guides who reveal interesting secrets of bush tucker as well
as stories of the region and Aboriginal culture. As gorges go,
this one is the most spectacular for photography. The reflections
of the gorge on the surface of the water alone are mesmerizing.
Can you spy the profile of Richard
Nixon in the rocks? |
